What Is the Best Social Media Platform To Spend Your Time On?

One question we get asked a lot is, “Which social media platform should I use and why?” We’re pleased to tell you that there is no one-size-fits-all answer. It all depends on you. So, my friends, you asked it. We answered! Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you not only choose but begin to maximize your time on your chosen social media platform!

With so many social media platforms, deciding which one to spend time on can be overwhelming. So many thoughts and questions can run through our minds — for example:

Which platform is best for me?

Should I have an online presence with as many platforms as possible?

I don’t have time to do it all, so I must pick something! But what?

Our time is valuable, and the demand to have thriving social media platforms can overshadow the true calling that God has given us: to further His Kingdom through our writing.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you begin to maximize your time on your chosen social media platform.

  1. Who is your target audience? Do some research on where your audience posts and interacts. For example, if your ministry focuses on empty-nest mothers, these women are on Facebook/Instagram and Pinterest. On the other hand, if your ministry focuses on young-adult women, they tend to navigate to TikTok and Instagram.
  2. Which social media platform do you spend most of your time on? If you find yourself on TikTok more than Facebook or Instagram, concentrate on TikTok to get your message out.
  3. Which of your platforms has the most followers? Use that to your advantage, and start engaging more with that audience. For example, I have more followers on Instagram than on Facebook. While I still post on both platforms using the Meta Business Suite, I engage and react to comments on Instagram because that’s where my audience is. They respond better to my IG posts, whereas the interaction almost does not exist on Facebook.
  4. Should I create short videos on my preferred platform? Because the average person’s attention span is getting shorter, videos are now the most popular way to gain followers. I wasn’t a fan of this to begin with because I am a writer. However, creating a short video message with captions has gained more followers and engagement. People prefer to scroll and watch rather than to scroll and read.

In the ever-changing world of social media and the pressure to create a growing platform, writers can get caught up with the numbers. Remember why the Lord called you to be a writer. You have a story to tell, which will encourage people who need it most.

Remember, focus on the social media platform where your audience is, and let God take it from there.

Blessings,

Missy Eversole

  1. Facebook and Instagram. I’m a newbie! Just started building a platform and released a podcast this week! Most of my followers are on these two platforms so I will be starting there.
