Becoming a Better Writer by Becoming a Better Editor

Today, we are celebrating the launch of our newest COMPEL Live Course: Becoming a Better Writer by Becoming a Better Editor. This course will equip you with simple tips and techniques to elevate your own writing through thoughtful editing.

Our COMPEL Live Course is taught by author, editor and master communicator Glynnis Whitwer. Glynnis has been on staff with Proverbs 31 Ministries since 1999 and is currently the Executive Director of Communications. She oversees COMPEL Training, Encouragement for Today devotions and provides direct oversight for the training content of She Speaks and She Speaks Studio. Glynnis is also the author and co-author of 10 books, including her newest, Doing Busy Better: Enjoying God’s Gifts of Work and Rest.

Keep reading from insight from Glynnis about what she hopes you will learn from her decades of writing and editing experience for more readable writing.

A message from Glynnis:

While I never set out to be an editor, I can say with confidence, learning to edit has helped strengthen my writing muscles like nothing else.

I jumped into the world of editing with no experience other than a degree in journalism and professional marketing writing experience. I had to relearn grammar rules and punctuation guidelines, which was easy in comparison to the rest of editing.

The most helpful editing experience came when I looked at a piece of writing I didn’t like and rather than just reject it, I decided to figure out what wasn’t working. Was it wordy? Did it feel choppy? Were there too many aside comments?

I forced myself to dissect the sentence, paragraph or even the entire document to discover what the writer had done that made the writing weak, and how could I help the writer with an editing suggestion.

That’s when I figured out techniques I could apply to my own writing. And lo and behold, they work.

That’s why I put together this new 4-session COMPEL series called Become a Better Writer by Becoming a Better Self-Editor. To enroll in the entire course, considering joining COMPEL today by clicking here! If you join before April 19th, you can receive ONE MONTH FREE!
